Re: When did you start using Linux and why?

2015. I got tired of having to reconfigure my settings after another large unplanned forced update. I started with Ubuntu 14 to get proof of concept with a liveCD. I set up Mint as a persistent liveUSB for several weeks. Finally, I installed it (dual boot). I have distro hopped, a lot. Rolling relea...

Re: Next update give an option for minimal install.

Some of us love MX besides the fact it doesnt hardly install on my PC that has a 32 bit uefi but that is a whole different story. It clearly depends on what device you are targeting. Very few distro installers even boot UEFI32. I just did 2 MX installs on my T100CHI without too much trouble. My fir...

Re: MX 17 Repository: The Liquorix Kernel Thread

Sorry, the built 32 bit kernel (4.16.16-zen-i686) is at the G+ T100/Ubuntu group community files. Try this link https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1TbDW4Hyo4FmMe1kff7oBZPk_wGxaWPwP copy the 2 files to an empty folder on your T100TA , open a terminal and install it with sudo dpkg -i *.deb Next yo...

Re: Baytrail-kernel Re: MX 17 Repository: The Liquorix Kernel Thread

patch-set from John Brodie for building a 32-Bit Liquorix-kernel (4.16.16-zen) for my Asus T100TA. Question: The 32-Bit Liquorix kernel-configuration file is ".config-i686-zen (baytrail)". Would that be suitable for building a live-kernel for MX-17? I would expect so. There is a 4.16.16-zen-i686 ke...

Re: Moore's Law no longer happening

Moore's Law seems to hold for the systems I can afford. I can roughly double performance for about the same cost every two years. I can't afford the bleeding edge machines where Moore's Law no longer holds.

Re: Get Rid of annoying full-screen notification for streaming video

Thanks. I remember a Windows hack that literally patched the flash plugin to shut off that notification. I had thought this nuisance message was the only downside switching to Linux!

Re: what was the first linux distro you used

My first linux was the Knopix liveCD back in the 2000's. I got it running well enough to discover Frozen Bubble but then set it aside. It wasn't until 3 years ago, that I installed Ubuntu 15, which lasted about 6 weeks until I upgraded to Mint. At the time I didn't realize that Mint was ubuntu 14 ba...
