Re: Help with ThinkPad T450s and MX Kernels

The XFCE desktop is the only desktop that is crashing/freezing with the 4.15, 4.19 and 5.1 kernels. Installed on separate partitions, with XFCE as the only other desktop, Mate, LXQT, and Cinnamon did not lock up - same T450s, kernel, driver, setup, same everything. Switch to XFCE and the problem res...

Re: Help with ThinkPad T450s and MX Kernels

Stevo- Thanks! The non-modesetting driver did not work out - the laptop just instantly shuts down instead of freezing the desktop. Are there other Intel driver choices for MX and antiX? Backported? Debian will support the 4.9 kernels for Stretch for some years to come, so we could always forwardport...

Re: Help with ThinkPad T450s and MX Kernels

JayM- No "Safe Boot Guard" or "Cool'n'Quiet" Disabled "SpeedStep" with the 5.1 kernel, it only took 30 minutes to lock-up/freeze. Other settings: ----------- Config - _______________ Total Graphics Memory [256MB] - Maybe increase memory? ----------- Intel (R) Hyper-Threading Technology [Enabled] - N...

Help with ThinkPad T450s and MX Kernels

Hi- Purchased a T450s that had problems with randomly freezing the desktop. Sometimes the crash would happen right away (not often) but mostly after about 10 straight hours or more of running it - sometimes just a browser open and not being used and other times with a browser and other programs open...

Re: Help with Random Desktop Lock-up?

bitjam- The previous post included an attachment with the Intel i915 power settings that are default. Is that configuration what it should be to conform to your suggestion? So far, the 4.9 kernel is working well - running the longest without issue. 4.15 and 4.19 eventually continued to crash and fre...

Re: Help with Random Desktop Lock-up?

Thanks so much for all this information! ----------- Richard- Thanks - yes, always compute the MD5SUM. ----------- JayM- Thought I tried the 4.9 antiX kernel when it first happened on the first laptop - trying it again. The only options that I had found in the BIOS that might be related are: Config ...

Help with Random Desktop Lock-up?

HI- I recently purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad T450s and was experiencing random freezing/crashing of the MX and antiX desktop, and intermittent graphic distortions in Grub. Only option was power-off. I tried hardware diagnostics - including motherboard, memory, and various hard drives, updating the BIO...

Re: [Solved] KDE Plasma Desktop Event Sounds - How to Disable?

JayM- Thank you for helping. ----------------- arjaybe- "Have you tried System Settings - Multimedia - Audio Volume - Applications - Notification Sounds and set to zero?" The Playback-System Sounds" was at "0", on "All Streams" instead of "Applications". After correcting this, all is quiet. Thank yo...

[Solved] KDE Plasma Desktop Event Sounds - How to Disable?

Hi- Trying to disable a harp-like sound of desktop events. Have turned off everything I could find in a search with "deconf-editor" - beep, audible bell, sound. Turned off all sound in "Notifications". Turned off system sounds in Pulseaudio and "Beep" in Alsa. It is also unchecked in Xfce. It sounds...
