Re: Inkjet paper which can cope with high air humidity: Recommendations?

j2mcgreg, Richard: @j2mcgreg, I agree with the desiccant idea and container. Take out for each use, or a few at a time. Depends on the work flow. Thanks , that sounds like a very smart workaround . Apparently there even are silica gel packages on the market that can be reused after having dried them...

My advise would be for your friend to talk to someone at a local office supply store about the best locally-sourced paper available at that location.
Good idea, but apparently he's already done that, to no avail. Greetings, Joe

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

@dreamer: (...) mx-system-sounds has a dependency on libcanberra-pulse. libcanberra-pulse has a dependency on pulseaudio. Consider the other back-end: mx-system-sounds has a dependency on libcanberra-gstreamer. libcanberra-gstreamer has a dependency on libgstreamer. libcanberra-gstreamer and libgstr...

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

@dreamer: (...) I also consider PulseAudio "bugged" (in every sense of the word) - much like systemd. (...) Most of the "hate" these technologies receive stems from the perception that they are hurting existing technologies. MX Linux has found a way to let technologies coexist. In this case: not yet...

Re: MX-17.1: Twinkle produces crackling sound output

@Head_on_a_Stick : (...) You haven't replaced PA with ALSA because PA runs on top of ALSA ;) Thanks for the correction. (...) And that's a workaround rather than a solution. (...) Currently I tend to see an immense value in forever getting rid of PulseAudio (cf. https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.p...

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

@dreamer: ... of course sound is better without PulseAudio because the (lazy) middle-man is gone. (...) Having all the necessary components for a PulseAudio free experience is a worthy goal I think. antiX comes without PulseAudio, but the main difference between these platforms seems to be systemd-f...

Re: MX-17.1/MX-18.1: Replacing PulseAudio by ALSA's sound server – implications?

@dreamer: (...) and then I got tired and started asking myself questions like "Why am I using Skype?" That's a very good question indeed. Personally speaking, I wouldn't put Skype on a nice clean MX Linux system. Maybe you'd like to have a look at jami – A GNU package (formerly named Ring – A GNU pa...

Re: MX-17.1: Twinkle produces crackling sound output

@Head_on_a_Stick: Try https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Glitches,_skips_or_crackling Thanks for the hint, I'll keep that in mind . For now, I've solved the problem by uninstalling PulseAudio and replacing it by ALSA (see https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=108&t=5...

Re: How to install without libre office and games?

@fehlix: How can I install mxlinux without libre office and games? Remove those packages before installing. (...) Maybe there could be an option in the installer where you can decide if you want any games? Or a bundling of MX Linux's 'standard games via a meta-package (which would mean that then all...

MX-17.1/MX-18.1 package request: "bluez-alsa" (also known as BlueALSA)

bluez-alsa (https://github.com/Arkq/bluez-alsa) is a Bluetooth audio ALSA backend . From the project's self-description: This project is a rebirth of a direct integration between BlueZ and ALSA. (...) The current status quo is, that in order to stream audio from/to a Bluetooth device, one has to in...
