Good catch! There was a file called nvidia-blacklists-nouveau.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/. The command ddm-mx -p nvidia removed it. I tried xorg=nouveau and upon rebooting I was brought to a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I couldn't do anything. Same thing happened when I tried to install Nvidia drivers. I can confirm that nouveau is installed on my system (checked though Synaptic).

I have not booted with "safe" or "failsafe" specified. In fact, I did 3 different frugal installs at about the same time and I did not look any further than persistence options. I tried removing the file with sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf and rebooting. The result is the same. Anoth...
