Re: MX-18 (w/ lightdm) log in as user fails

Hi again, Fehlix, [UPDATE to the above] Found the problem: Intel BIOS-related. MX-Linux_x64.iso boots like a champ now. i imagine even the snapshots will (will try that later). Almost wishing I'd never bought this NUC.....among the many problems (like this one) incredibly it seems near impossible to...

Re: MX-18 (w/ lightdm) log in as user fails

@Fehlix, For NUC8i5, all Ubuntu(s) I've tried (Ubuntu 18.04 & above, Kubuntu, etc, etc) boot using their ISO dd-ed to a USB. LinuxMint too. Also Fedora. All install quickly and with no problems I've encountered. But, using the MX-18_x64.iso dd-ed to the exact same USB stick used for the above, it wi...

Re: MX-18 (w/ lightdm) log in as user fails

I posted here (below link) in leix26's thread how I solved this problem with a bandaid shell maneuver coming into the shell from lightdm that won't boot into the user. Things are working presently and I'll see if the situation holds up as I use programs, run updates, etc, etc over the next week: htt...

Re: MX boots to login screen only

Hi liex26/skidoo, I finally got MX-18 to boot into my (already) saved user account. At first, I noticed .Xauthority and .ICEauthority somehow would end up with root ownership when I'd upgrade from 17 to 18. Not sure what is happening there, because it did this from a fresh install (this morning) of ...

Re: MX-18 (w/ lightdm) log in as user fails

Hi everyone, Apologies I didn't reply sooner....just got back home. Need first to do my husband & Dad duties, and then I am going to look at this more in-depth. Thanks everyone for responding. And, yes, liex26, I entirely entertain "user stupidity", haha, always the first thing I think when somethin...

MX-18 (w/ lightdm) log in as user fails

Hi MX Gang, First, MX is still overall the best distro out there. Have expounded the virtues of both Antix and MX on many a forum. One of those is the Puppy Linux forum, where I am a regular contributor and sometimes a Puppy OS Developer. I have to ask: have you guys been noticing an occassional dev...

uh oh, GHOSTBUSTERS r back ---new terminal weirdness

Started up my MX-15 KDE today, the MX Apt Notifier said there were three updates to do, I clicked on it and then was faced with this. Went upstairs to another machine, also with MX-15 KDE, same thing showed. But...well...both machines, this overall weird terminal-associated crap has started again. H...

Re: did I goof? or did MX-KDE ghostbusters visit me??

Hi all, Thanks for the responses. First off, yes, I had "googled" this. Second, is it possible there is confusion/misunderstanding about the MX ROOT terminal application inside MX_Linux from the menu? Mainly this: AS A USER YOU DO NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO TYPE IN "SU", "SUDO", "KDESU" OR "GKSU" WHEN O...

Re: did I goof? or did MX-KDE ghostbusters visit me??

Can't the problem be that you're starting a GUI app (dolphin) from a terminal without using gksu? Usually fills up the terminal with lots of junk. Henry Henry, Sure, that may be true in another Linux OS, where you need to run either gksu or kdesu or put the infamous "i" after sudo. But in this case...

Re: did I goof? or did MX-KDE ghostbusters visit me??

Stevo, Yes, it's your KDE respin (which I like very much). Ok, I'll defer to your wisdom here and tell me what you think: I wonder if this is the reason that what happened actually did happen? I opened a fresh "root" terminal, entered my passphrase, the root terminal popped open, and then I immediat...
