Re: Help - Nvidia drivers refuse to install

Might be the same issue Stevo had with his MSI laptop. Perhaps his solution will work for you - https://forum.mxlinux.org/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=46768 Edit: or maybe not, I just reread and nvidia appears to be loaded for you whereas it wasn't for Stevo. dolphin_oracle posted at the same time I did, he...

Re: WOOT! Finally got Bumblebee working on MSI GP63 8RD

Great work indeed @Stevo! If it took you months to work it out, I pity mere mortals. Hopefully they find this thread and have an easier time of it. Maybe the Bumblebee devs could even implement the config file with Bumblebee installation. I usually don't comment on Optimus/Bumblebee any more as I do...

Re: Distrowatch reveiw grumbles

I am not sure if that is good. We tout "it just works". This flatpack model reminds me in some ways of Windows in that users go on the net and grab a program from an unknown source. Flatpack seems to mirror that. I maybe missing something. In any case I will cease and desist It is only my opinion a...

Re: Vivaldi & H.264/MP4 (MP3 too I think) & libffmpeg.so

The command earlier in the thread put libffmpeg.so in ~/.local/vivaldi/ . Should not that override the one in /opt and also not be overwritten by an upgrade?

Re: New SSD required

Thanks for all the replies. As the machine is reporting possible future problems with the main drive (500GB) I had a really old HD that reported "imminent failure" in SMART for well over 2 years of everyday use. It was retired from main drive duties after that appeared, and used for data and well b...

Haha, as if they'd share all their patents. Pigs can't fly yet AFAIK. :p

Re: Could we see the end of G**gle?

I like that article. Bold but with some salient points particularly about diminishing returns of collecting and analysing more and more data and the analogy of predicting when it's safe to cross the road.
Hopefully DuckDuckGo will develop an operating system for smart phones soon! ;)

Re: root Thunar menu option

And yes, I am (vaguely) aware of being able to do it from the Command Line, though I don't know exactly how. sudo cp file1 file2 file3 /destination/directory/ Now you know! You can copy as many files as you like together as long as the last bit is the destination. Use Tab completion for the filenam...

Re: New SSD required

Tom's Hardware regularly update their Best SSD guide: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-ssds,3891.html I would go for a Samsung 860 EVO. I currently have a 2 year old 850 EVO and a 7 year old OCZ Vertex2, both still going strong. SSDs are just plug n' play in MX, no extra tweaking required. ...

Re: Email programs with MX Linux 17.1 ..

I still use Thunderbird and have for about 15 years. Wondering what these "recent problems" are that people mention as it works the same as always here. Resource usage shows 155 MB memory plus 113MB shared memory which is peanuts compared with most browsers.
