Re: Music Manager Software other than Clementine/Strawberry

...so thought I'd just mention that I often use mc & mpg123 to manage & play my music at the command line. Was that a typo or is mc another player? And I've seen mpg123 on the list but haven't tried it yet. I've been trying to get ncmpcpp to work with mpd but so far have not been successful. I stil...

Re: Laptop died

The best chance to save any electronics that get wet is to not turn them on until you are sure they are absolutely dry. I've even heard of people washing them with distilled water to clean impurities especially if the wet invader was coffee or sugary drink or anything but water. The main damage will...

Re: Tidying up the Neon and the antiX repo?

Neon repos are never going to work on antiX or MX. The lack of systemd could be stumbling block #2 as well. If you're keen to make a horrible mess by adding Plasma 5.12 to antiX, Neptune OS has rebuilt it to be compatible with Stretch and that might be installable. But seriously you would be better ...

Also check if your preferences are correct. In Thunderbird Edit > Preferences > Attachments > Incoming make sure http and https both have "Use firefox" selected.

Re: KDE keeps giving me weird problems

How did you get KDE in MX? From MXPI? Using Adrian's respin? Or some other way? IMO Adrian's respin is the best way. I tried from MXPI and also just installing kde-plasma-desktop from Debian repo but in both those cases it seemed to clash a bit with the native Xfce or at least result in messy duplic...

Re: Dedoimedo Praises MX-18 on His 10-year-old EeePC Netbook

I think we should do some testing and then if it works easily ask for it to be put into the repos. Maybe wrap it to ease setup? Syncthing is in Debian repos. I just set it up last week on my 2 computers at home. I spent maybe an hour reading the docs and watching a video to make sure I did it right...

Who is using SSD's?

While it certainly won't hurt to put you browser cache in RAM, it's probably not necessary to get a good lifetime from an SSD. Most SSDs have a lifetime write capacity of many hundreds of terabytes. TechReport did a test a few years back and several kept working up to 2.5 petabytes of writes! Check ...

Re: System Wide Permissions

First, you don't want to change the permissions on the entire file system. things will break. I don't know what, but something will. .... But I in no way recommend doing either one to system folders. things will break. I did that once. Meant to change ownership of a data partition mountpoint while ...

Re: Who is using SSD's?

I have an 8 year old OCZ Vertex2 120GB in the system I'm on now in which I do everyday emails and web browsing etc. System is 3 years older than that with Core2Duo E8500 and 4GB RAM. Still going strong and fast. My other system for audio production and gaming is 3 YO with Samsung 850 EVO 500GB, i5 6...
