Re: SOLVED..Needing Help Please..(initramfs)

My thanks to you both. I shadowed some of this and got no errors, then got 4 updates.

They applied fine, I reckon I might be OK booting up in the am. Sure hope so because I'm not sure what I'll do if there is a problem! <eek>

Glad it turned out ok so far. Nice!

Re: Needing Help Please..(initramfs)

Is google earth likely to be a cause? I uninstalled it some time ago when it was becoming problematic. Might I have dodged this stern looking bullet? I recall Skype being a cause of trouble some time ago, now Google Earth - it's starting to look like large corporate software is probably w...

Re: Needing Help Please..(initramfs)

Well done, sounds a mess, but well done. I reckon it is not really solved though.

Re: Needing Help Please..(initramfs)

As I use the same hardware I am feeling a bit nervous about this, since I would get the updates offered to me tomorrow usually, because I am in Europe and they get updates offered later (in practical terms). I wonder if there is a way to avoid just the one troublesome update? <shrug> Hope someone kn...

Re: ZyGrib please?

MX 15/16 doesn't support Ryzen processors out of the box, though, so you should be be doing an upgrade for those. Yep, as I hinted in an earlier post the Ryzen Project is aimed at moving up to MX 18 and maybe to 19 as and when that seems sensible. I'll likely run the old one as it is (15), while we...

Re: ZyGrib please?

how do I safely make use of it? Temporary addition to synaptic. Manually select it from there for update, then lose the test repo entry from synaptic? ... Nope. Use MX Packageinstaller, not Synaptic. Click on Test Repo tab and install from that. That only opens up Test Repo long enough to install w...

Re: ZyGrib please?

Yes, it builds and installs on MX 15. We already had "qwt" packages that it needs in the MX 15 test repo: http://mxrepo.com/mx/testrepo/pool/test/q/qwt/ That sounds like good news! This never came up before, but how do I safely make use of it? Temporary addition to synaptic. Manually select it from...

Re: ZyGrib please?

Often we can still build new programs even for MX 15. I'm building new releases of Pale Moon, Deadbeef, and the Liquorix kernel for it right now, so it's not dead yet! I'll take a look at ZyGrib after those finish cooking. Well the fact is, a mate and I already started planning for a Ryzen 3 build,...

Re: ZyGrib please?

Thanks for that JayM. I find the situation a bit problematic; It is unknowable how old is too old and how new is too new. Then there is the question of how far from the norm is too far. In designing my last machine I wanted to find out about light power use machines, mine uses a 20 watt laptop PSU b...
