Re: I've done something to stop apt-notifier from working properly with root permissions

Kmathern: Thanks for the additional commentary! As you surmised, purging and reinstalling did not fix the problem, and my terminal output today is: sudo apt-notifier (and it is the same whether i run as root or user) $grep: write error: Broken pipe grep: write error: Broken pipe grep: write error: B...

I've done something to stop apt-notifier from working properly with root permissions

I am sure this is a problem I created for myself, but if anyone knows a solution I would still appreciate help fixing it. I recently installed LXDE as an experiment, and in switching back and forth between desktops, I now find that when I am back running XFCE as normal that my apt-notifier icon no l...

Re: Recommended Mail Notifier Applet / Program

One more comment: It looks like the author of Kshowmail was working on something to duplicate the main functionality of mailwasher in linux (spreadsheet format view incoming headers from multiple accounts before downloading them), but there's been no activity for 10+ years http://www.linuxsoft.cz/en...

Re: Recommended Mail Notifier Applet / Program

Thanks for the suggestion fehlix -- I see that i haven't visited this "Mailwasher-alternative" question in several years, and there now appear to be several alternatives in the windows world as listed on this page: https://www.techsupportalert.com/best-free-spam-filter-for-experienced-users.htm ( Po...

Recommended Mail Notifier Applet / Program

I use an array of six or seven different web-based and pop3 mail services, and I am wondering if there is a good way to consolidate my email checking in one place. At one time I uses to use Mailwasher in windows to do this, but I stopped doing that some years ago when I moved to linux and that progr...

Re: Using Chrome Remote Desktop in MX17

Fehlix I wanted to report back and say that today I noticed that my Anydesk installations were reporting a new version available. I downloaded and reinstalled the very latest version, and now I am having no trouble setting an unattended password, and all is working well. Thanks to you again!

Re: Potamus audio player

Thank you for suggesting Potamus. I have been looking for a replacement for my favorite directory player / small fast windows music player - 1by1 - and this looks like a good option, in addition to the decoding quality. Potamus doesn't have the file browser, doesn't show a picture of the album art, ...
