Re: tor

I did hear though “ FUD is the path to the dark side…FUD leads to anger…anger leads to hate…hate leads to suffering. ” Granted, many of the details aren't easily-digestible, but documentation is certainly available torproject.org The tor-browser codebase contains numerous and significant privacy-fr...

Re: Login password Problem with "é" letters

An updated version of SLiM available from https://gitlab.com/skidoo/slim-antix supports UTF8 strings in the onscreen welcome messages (tested) and it might support (zero tester feedback to date) UTF8 characters in the username / password input fields. If you care to test & have a 64-bit system, can ...

Re: Ideas for a "Quick Start" document

We want to develop a document that would link off MX Welcome (alongside the new FAQs) that would guide the new user through the 10-12 most common procedures users carry out after installation, and are looking for Community help to come up with a list. Regardless of its curated content, adding a (an...

Re: To systemd or not systemd - Ever wonder about it?

I've helped to maintain the without-systemd.org wiki page: "Arguments against systemd" Hopefully it stands as one of the most well-reasoned and most comprehensive references on the subject. read this: https://www.reddit.com/r/copypasta/comments/8p3spk/how_many_times_do_i_have_to_tell_you_simpleton/ ...

Re: persistence and remastering

So, If I created a 4gb root persistence file, on my laptop, with 8gb of ram and save it, then tried to run the same live usb stick, on my netbook, with only 1gb of ram, the root persistence file wouldn't load into ram, obviously Good questions, and the answers aren't obvious. If the rootfs file cur...

Re: new linux mint, behind in xfce compared to MX

MX Tools & MX Tweak contain duplicates of items that are already in the control panel. Personally, I think that's silly & confusing. (already in xfce control panel AND in whiskermenu) Yep, this is a sticking point across distros, across various desktop environments. On one hand, need to consider "d...

Re: new linux mint, behind in xfce compared to MX

For example, context menu functions for Thunar, such as image resize, rotate, on the fly would be awesome. So, be awesome ~~ install imagemagick and assign your own Thunar custom actions, e.g.: convert % F - rotate 90 % F convert % F - resize 450 ` basename %F .jpg` -resize450. png (ref: page30 htt...

Re: A thought on Timeshift

refer to the page linked in OP. Timeshift does not backup content of user directories.
MX snapshot and live-usb-maker already cover the bases. IMO, adding another redundant app would just invite confusion.

Re: forum Quote text and Code display

Within lengthy howto write-ups, occasional color(s) can be super helpful. On the flip side, bear in mind that over 30% of adult human males are affected by some degree of colorblindness. My favorite use of color is toward conveying a sense of whispering Just noticed that we've gained ability to appl...
