we have to press 3 buttons
What I like to do is hold off updating until a day after I've had an extra couple hours sleep.
That way I'm sure I'll have the energy to press all 3 of those buttons without straining myself too much.

Yes, ~/.config/Thunar/uca.xml should work when copied to another computer, or to a different user's home.
Bear in mind that you may need to chown the ownership of the file in its new location, else user will be unable to edit it.
