Re: Remote Access Question - Finding IP Of Remote To Allow Nomachine or VNC or Antix 1to1 Assistant

I access my Ubuntu box over VNC/SSH every day. And I use dyndns.com (paid version) which lets my machine inform the DNS of its current dynamically assigned IP address via a small service. no-ip.com provides similar services some of which I believe are free. This makes your machine's dynamic IP disco...

Distrowatch mentions MX Flatpak and docs on Gnome Keyring.

Jesse took notice of the helpful Gnome Keyring discussion Felix spurred. And the excellent job you guys did integrating Flatpak support. I haven't used Flatpak, but the video DO did looks really cool.

Re: FFmpeg hardware accelerated transcoding

What was it using in your tablet? Did you have to pass any special flag in the ffmpeg command? Oh, yeah. You have to tell FFmpeg explicitly to use Nvidia, AMD, or Intel. It has a special set of args for them. On my tablet (a dinky Intel atom with 6xx gpu), it's the standard vaapi set. So, I used so...

Re: FFmpeg hardware accelerated transcoding

Give credit to the Debian team for having the hardware acceleration built in for ffmpeg, not me; I just backport their configuration...though if you're talking about using Handbrake with Intel GPU support, we're porting the deb-multimedia version which leverages libmfx for that, which the Debian/Ub...

FFmpeg hardware accelerated transcoding

Many thanks to the MX dev team for the great work getting hardware acceleration integrated in the FFmpeg 3.x build. (Probably Stevo's handy work). Video transcoding is something I do every day, and I just took it for granted that FFmpeg was the same on all distros. Oh, no it's not! At a friend's hou...

Re: Gnome-keyring - unlocked

Thanks for your guide, fehlix. This is something I don't understand. In Ubuntu 14.04 (still supported) gnome-keyring is installed. I have never been asked to create a password. Not by: Networkmanager Evolution Skype Chrome or any other application. Opera on Ubuntu 14.04 will prompt you to set up yo...

Re: keyring prompt

If you have disables autlogin, i.e. you need type in your password, the libpam-gnomekeyring, will automatically unlock your default login-keyring ( if keyring-password matchs login password). Ah, that last sentence explains a lot. Machines that leave my home never have autologin. They use the gnome...

Re: keyring prompt

I'm using autologin on my tablet. I just updated from google-chrome-stable 69.0.3497.81-1 to 69.0.3497.92-1. My keyring seems to be working as expected. If I blank the keyring password, Chrome no longer prompts me for it -- or attempts to set up a new keyring. Exiting Chrome during a keyring prompt ...

Re: keyring prompt

This is a bug in Chrome. You can't just enter a blank password for the keyring because Chrome will prompt you to set up a keyring the next time it launches. If you hit "continue" and not set up a keyring, Chrome will prompt you the next time you start it saying that it didn't shut down properly and ...

Re: Moore's Law no longer happening

It is interesting to me that they are actually making faster chips, even faster mobile chips, but the infatuation with 'thinner and lighter' is killing performance. Gordon Moore's law is only about miniaturization. He predicted in 1965 that the number of transistors on a silicon chip would double e...
