Re: Online translator deepl.com now translates complete word-documents for free

I believe that DeepL is the translator from the same firm that brought us Linguee. They are very different products, but are rooted in the same AI-based learning systems. It's a German company, and from what I can tell, the interlingua sources are German and English. So, translations between German ...

Re: What browser does everyone use

There are lots of graphical browsers, but surprisingly few rendering engines. Nearly all of them are based on Chromium, Trident (IE), Gecko (Firefox), Goanna (Gecko Fork), Webkit (Safari), or Blink (Opera) For example, Vivaldi's underpinning is Chromium, and Pale Moon is based on Goanna. Remember th...

Re: (MX17.1) Extremely low file copy speed to an external usb pen or disk (fat32 formatted)

Please someone post or find a solution. I do not want to go back to Mint. If I do it, it will be permanent. Are you certain the overall write speed is slower? Do you know by how much? The reason I mention this is, I just tried copying a 2GB video file to my Kingston Datatraveler USB Type C/ USB 3.1...

so stumped, but at least its working now for you!
Could it be that, for whatever reason, the dark theme was accidentally disabled (mine came that way and I installed from the June snapshot), and so it couldn't be selected from the environment?

Is this down to running MX on a live USB?
I had this same issue, only my MX17.1 instance is installed, not live.

All I did to fix it is opened Firefox menu (far right). Select Add-ons => Themes. Enabled Dark and disabled Light.

Re: Switch between different display settings

As mentioned above there are many settings that have to be adjusted for the MX Linux interface to work on a high resolution display. So, what you're wanting is, "remember all my settings on whatever machine I'm on and automatically restore them when I boot on it." I don't believe MX has that featur...

Re: VLC GUI Display

After having applied the above fix the VLC available with the menu shall be fixed. Manual associations made in Thunar and Panel entries might have to be checked or fixed manually if needed. Cool! BTW: This flag also fixes a similar problem I have with GIMP. So, if you run into more than just a coup...

Re: VLC GUI Display

You might just try it out from the CLI with this, IMHO: env QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=0 vlc I wasn't sure what the flag actually did. In my google-crazed fever to solve my problem, I saw lots of peeps who didn't have any success setting the variable ad-hoc, and so they presumed it didn't work at ...

Re: VLC GUI Display

And unfortunately after all that there's no change, it's GUI is still large & ugly & refuses to resize down small like it should do  I'm no expert, but I may be able to make you happy again if you're not afraid to edit a config file. I think this issue has to do with how VLC and other QT appli...

Re: Finally De-Googled

i mean our personal data can be used against us, i think. do you agree or not? and if you agree do you accept that, as it seems or not? Of course, it can. But isn't the real question, "is your behavior on the internet private?" I would say that, outside your passwords, there is very little data kno...
