An SSD is probably the best way to improve overall performance - bar none. I have them in all of my laptops and it's the best bang for the buck...

I have used MX with 3 different Lenovo laptops and it worked perfectly out of the box. Never been a fan of Dell as Broadcom WiFi is a PITA...

While I have faster, more powerful laptops, I use my Lenovo X230 (Core I5) more than any other. You can find them cheap and they are good machines...

My advice is use the programs you need just as you do under Windows. Many of them are the same or nearly so and let's be honest, most folks turn on their computer to do something other than play with the OS. Surf the web, listen to music, watch videos, read a book, build a spreadsheet, create a writ...

WPS installs just fine from the .DEBs at that site. I use it and it's a great simple office suite...

I prefer Leafpad to both and it's the first thing I installed in MX-17 (mainly because I'm used to it)...
