Re: Give me a few reasons WHY

Simplest reason is one system to master and maintain. I run the exact same systems on all my machines (have 4 in the house). I install MX, add and remove programs, tweak the system as I like it, then make a personal snapshot. I use the snapshot to install on my other machines...

Re: 12.5" Display: 1366x768 vs 1920x1080?

I just got a new (used) Thinkpad T440s with a 1920 x 1080 IPS (14") display. Great screen but it takes some tweaking for my old eyes to use it. I increase the font size, the DPI, and add a default zoom to the browser (Palemoon). it's not a comfortable to my eyes as a 1366 x 768 screen but the qualit...

Re: Who runs MX from USB and why?

I guess I'm just dull as I don't need a portable system since the only computers I use are my own and have installed systems. I swap out hard drives when I'm testing stuff as it only takes a minute and I have lots of spare drives. One thing I check before I buy any laptop (haven't owned a desktop in...

Re: Who runs MX from USB and why?

I may be thick but I have yet to hear why as I really don't see a USB system will be faster/better than an installed system. About the only use I can see is as a portable system I can use on computers that I don't own. Never use any computers except my own so I have never seen the need for a portabl...

Re: Any other readers here?

Just finished the "Marching with Casear" series by RW Peake and I enjoyed it a lot. Reading The Bernicia Chronicles by Matthew Harffy now. Read the final book in the Dragonheart series by Griff Hosker yesterday - sad to see it end for sure...

Who runs MX from USB and why?

Just a question I've had for a while now. The only time I ever run the system from a USB drive is to install from a snapshot as the slowness would drive me nuts. The last SSD I bought was a 225GB from Walmart for $29, which is as cheap as a good USB 3.0 thumb drive. While I have never run MX from a ...

Re: Any other readers here?

The reason I like using tablets to read is I can set the background and text color as well as the font size. Some days I use a very large font, other days a smaller font works. I'll be 64 in a month and age does not help vision, although I never had great vision to begin with. I currently use a Leno...

Re: Any other readers here?

Another good author for Roman historical fiction is Anthony Riches. His Empire series (10th book came out this month) is fun reading. I read strictly for pleasure and I most enjoy a series where the characters are realistic and likeable. Another author to check out for Parthian historical fiction (a...

Laptop finally died

After 6 years of daily use, the HP Elitebook 8440p that I bought as a refurb finally gave up the ghost. Went to tuen it on and the fan ran full blast and all the indicator light came on - and nothing else. Went to the Walmart website and started looking for a replacement. Walmart beats Amazon in man...

Re: Any other readers here?

Most of the Roman historical fiction I read has a huge basis in fact. The wrap their fictional characters in actual events of the period. The Cato & Macro series (Under the Eagle) by Simon Scarrow is really enjoyable - 17 books so far. The books by SJA Turney are also very good and I've read all he ...
