custom liveCD failed - why?

I think my recently made custom liveDVD is no good, because my latest installation from it had two kernel panics within an hour of installation. I threw the disc out and reinstalled from an older custom liveDVD that I trust. My question is: which was more likely the problem: a bad burn or bad disc; ...

Re: MX is really something special

the MX system does install really well, & it looks really nice,, and it even detects all the hardware, properly. plus, it still runs that Older Hardware, quite well, when some other Linux System's don't .. . Yes, and when it doesn't run some older hardware, the MX team will probably cor...

Re: MX is really something special

(The only reason I quit using MEPIS, in early 2011, is because KDE had adopted that Plasma Desktop thing. I promptly dumped KDE and MEPIS.) <pedant> Mepis never used Plasma. Plasma is what they call KDE5. M12b, the last iteration of Mepis, used KDE4. </pedant> I stand corrected. KDE 4. I thought KD...

Re: What was your first Linux distro?

Mandrake linux was my first. Mandrake became Mandriva then discontinued. I believe Open Mandriva is an attempt to resurrect it. I have tried almost every distro out there over the years and have settled on MX and Arch. Hmm, mine too--Mandrake. In 2003. Although I abandoned it after a few months bec...

Re: Someone thinks firefox is better than Chrome now...

I have no idea whether Chrome is better, and I honestly don't care. I fear Google enough that I won't touch a Google product if I can easily avoid it. The only times I've ever used Chrome are when my online college courses forced me to, and even then, only on the school computers.

Re: MX is really something special

@ Seaken64 trinity is in the main MX repo. That trinity's description says "system call fuzz tester". It's not the Trinity desktop environment. There's Budgie, Gnome, KDE5 Plasma, LXDE, Cinnamon and MATE in the repos. Welcome to the forum and MX Linux, SUSEconvert. Yes, Trinity has its own reposito...

Re: MX is really something special

Out of curiosity i once added the trinity repository to MX16 (jessie-based) and installed KDE3. I have not spent that much time with it but it seemed to work just fine. Lightdm lets me pick either XFCE or KDE as expected. I liked Trinity when I discovered it, but I was starting to have certain prob...

Re: MX is really something special

I can make my response compliment all three members of the MEPIS family simultaneously. By the end of this year, I will have been using MX for five years, because I think I discovered it in late 2014--I remember trying it out and playing with it that December. (I'm pretty sure it couldn't have been ...

any character map applications in MX?

I wanted to type a certain French word with an accent, but as far as I know, I don't have a character map application. Does MX include one, and I've just never noticed it? If not, that's okay: I looked up what's available, and am going to try gucharmap (Gnome).

is Unetbootin still broken? [solved]

I just noticed I apparently still have UNetbootin installed--I didn't remember. I think I'll uninstall it anyway, because who needs it now that our native liveUSB maker works. But out of curiosity, does Unetbootin even work now? Back when I first tried MX liveUSB (a few years ago), I gave up after b...
