Re: mx-package-manager (new MX app)

Just a short update about plans, I sent this to translation, once is done I will push it as an update to mx-packageinstaller (and it will remove mx-test-repo-installer, mx-debian-backports-installer and also remove this mx-package-manger because it won't get updates, only mx-packageinstaller will. ...

Re: Can't see boot command, only old version

In a near similar situation, have used Puppy's grub4dos utility to probe the hd's and make a new grub table. Keep a Puppy CD just for this, and the new table is in a larger font, much easier to read

Re: mx-package-manager (new MX app)

@ skidoo. Thank you. Had not thought of setting colors, a good scheme. Also, statuses is correct according to Webster, although as status originates from the Latin, statii could be accepted in some places. Then again, some experts say that status does not need a plural.

In the same situation, might have tried using Gparted to partition and format the ssd, installed MX on to the 1TB drive, then used gparted to copy from the 1 TB to the ssd. Did something similar with an laptop that had a faulty optical drive and could only read CD's. Plugged the laptops drive into m...

Re: on-board sshd not recognized

Had an issue something like this when attempting to add an ssd on this old box which does have four SATA sockets on the board. I replugged the cables so that SSD cable was in socket 1, the rotating disk HD in socket 2, brought the cables for socket 3 outside - so I can test other drives, and socket ...

Re: Why MX Linux is my favorite distro

mjaksen writes, to me anyway, a lot of sense. I came up through the same path, DOS, Win 3.1, a brief time with Apple at work, a series of Windows updates, not all of them improvements, Then, while using XP, I was introduced to Linux. Tried various options - and as mjaksen says, there are many. Too m...

Re: mx-package-manager (new MX app)

D_O asked " do any apps show as installed or upgradeable in the test repo area?

Yep, apps installed are greyed, upgradeable have a small adjacent icon, and an upgrade worked.

Re: Distrowatch ranking

@ linexer2016. You make a point that concerns me. Does MX-16 really need improving? To use a local idiom "MX-16 is built like a brick chicken house" extremely solid, and as you say " ...it works". Why change things? Unless there is to be a significant gain without any loss of sta...
