Re: MX 15 Repository: The palemoon thread

Been using Pale Moon here for months. If you want to expand its capabilities, many Mozilla add-ons are suitable, and if you do have any questions, there is a Pale Moon Forum.

Re: Repositories

just ran four ping tests - 30 seconds apart - on the NZ Debian site. Received four different averaged answers. Anything seems possible, ran the speed test a few weeks ago and was advised that Greece was the fastest. That is close to the maximum possible distance from here. So as expected, it is a var...

Re: Repositories

Not sure where they are here. Some Linux distros have been working from a University site in the South Island.

Still preferring Utah here too, but have over-ridden the choice and will stay with NZ. Odd that LA is not preferred, the path is physically shorter.

Re: Repositories

More interesting with every comment. Probably caused by traffic densities on the links used between cities and countries and the ability of automatic switching systems to choose the best route. We get some weird international television here sometimes with video and audio going over different circui...

Re: Repositories

Pings, thanks Jerry. Regardless of which mirror we use, transmission speeds are much better than 150 years ago. Here's a couple of factual sentences from a piece I wrote for the NZ amateur radio journal ' Break-In '. "Twelve wpm would have been a phenomenal speed for the first trans-Atlantic te...

Re: Repositories

Just tested it and it told me Utah. I am definitely on NZ's north island east coast. Wonder how the test works? Does do a sample download from each, or perhaps ping them? Most odd.

Re: Repositories

Button pushing may well show that Utah is the fastest for NZ. It can vary with loading on server.

Re: Repositories

Wish you success Ray. A few people on the outskirts of town and rural, use a wireless service for their internet. Here, about 5K from the central exchange, the only issues with the NZ mirror have been occasional delays in updates from the main MX server. Not sure which feed is used, satellite or the...

Re: Repositories

Hello Ray, I also use the NZ repository and have no problems. Speeds are very good. Live in Tauranga and believe that the NZ mirror is fairly close. ISP is Trustpower,
the local power supplier. Our district at north end of town is underground fibre.
Gordon.
