Re: Can anyone recommend to me a cheapish, current model notebook that loves Linux?

Some of the grey nomad or camping groups online can provide some ideas for being on the road. 12V and solar options are increasingly popular, especially with free camping taking off. You might pick up some ideas there for suitable devices. I will think about 12V charging if I purchase a portable com...

Re: How do they know?

I have no doubt that potatoes arriving for processing into dry crisps vary considerably. The soil, nutrient regime, watering and freshness. While the big burger place uses only Russet Burbank for fries, crisping potatoes will be produced using a variety of breeds. Cooking colour is the other importa...

Re: MX-17: More conservative, safer ext4 file system defaults?

Running a live/custom system snapshot via USB, and consideration of updating the system kernel to compare stability seem like two avenues to explore to eliminate or further confirm a hardware issue.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2016-01-05/what-do-you-call-battered-deep-fried-potato-snack-linguistic/7069684 Scallop for potato cake is one local eccentricity, the former prevailing in our national capital. Some people even say fritter, I gather, out in the whoop whoop, beyond the black stump, the bac...

Re: How do they know?

I once worked with crisp (and other) potato breeding and agronomy. Seeing sliced and fried samples laid out from various new crosses (grown from actual seed-microtubers in glasshouse-field trials. On occasions I'd visit a commercial plant to try promising varieties out. I recall the trucks of fresh ...

Re: Duplicate Panel Icons

In Panel preferences, when you select Windows Buttons and edit the options, some of the choices might help, although I only use an XFCE environment here. It looks like you already have button labels hidden, going by the screenshot, so I was wondering if you'd already explored such settings and if GN...

Re: Full upgrade

I have always used Synaptic, since Mepis I think, although sometimes use the CLI method (often following an inadvertent mouse click...yeah...whatever...), or GDebi, when these appear via the forum for tweaks or tests. So I've never given much consideration to apt methods. I think some version upgrad...

Re: newbie help with software install

How does ClamTK perform, being available from Synaptic? Like many Linux users, I tend to rely upon the wider community consensus for virus risk information. That aside, I would expect many more people are compromised personally and financially by typical web activity and exposure to philshing and sc...

Re: persistence and remastering

The old files will still be there, pending the usual clean up later. So you can fall back to them and someone might point you the right direction for this task.
