Re: What's the meaning behind the codenames for MX and antiX?

εὕρηκα = Eureka I grew up in a Greek city called Melbourne :) (at least the part I lived in was quite popular with the diaspora) Eureka, however, has particular historical meaning and the Eureka flag, recently appropriated by certain groups here, harks back to a violent gold field era confrontation...

Re: Have you seen this that just happened!?

There's also a space disco ball mirror floating around, potentially frustrating astronomers. I wonder if the convertible has one of those nodding dash figures, like a say a dog, or Elvis or a Bowie, perhaps?

Re: MX-17_x64 Final : can't boot on live-USB

I would recommend testing on a spare USB alone first, although some users familiar with multi-boot USB arrangements might have advice specific to that situation.

Welcome to the MX Forum too. :number1:

Re: Conky CPU temperature issue

Those are nice temps for an Intel processor! I'm getting 38C and 34C on a much cooler evening with light rain lingering after heavier falls during the day. I don't know if one CPU is shouldering more load or if it's simply thermodynamics and slight cooling differences, or even if the sensors are ca...

Re: Conky CPU temperature issue

I googled and decided to just change numbers until I was seeing two different temperature readings of similar magnitude. I don't really understand the numbers I changed or the logic of, simply trying various....using 3 to get the other cpu temp output was the winning guess. I think I now have each C...

Re: Conky CPU temperature issue

I've tried looking at the MX-17 Conky. I can make occasional sense of color/formatting via html, while picking out the odd command to get info for conky to display. Terminal output $ sensors coretemp-isa-0000 Adapter: ISA adapter Core 0: +43.0°C (high = +76.0°C, crit = +100.0°C) Core 1: +44.0°C (hig...

Re: MX 17 for video editing/graphics work

I tried a live USB session and it looks and feels great but I don't really care for eye-candy and apparently some reviews focus a lot on that matter. So, I'm more interested on hearing about it's performance, workability for lazy-bones and the opinion of someone who works with graphics and video an...

Re: Keep mmikeinsantarosa and his family in your thoughts

Interesting read there. I sometimes enjoy a long New Yorker article, even though geography and media here are far apart. The majority of the Australian landscape is reputedly worn down over long ages, once soaring ranges now barely discernible, occasional rocky remains. Tasmania perhaps shows the mo...

Re: Site describing MX as a 'product'?

I can see an argument for a more informative menu tile (eg. resources), notwithstanding that MX is the product of many contributors and individual efforts, produced by such collaborative efforts. Producing a driver's license or enjoying home garden produce as the product of one's own efforts.... I b...

Re: Net Neutrality rumor

In Oz Fibre to the node (FTN) or wireless broadband is the latest rollout over existing copper/ADSL networks* (*until recent decades, singly government owned and run). Without the commercial history or networks in N America where cable tv took off, simple net speed is a contemporary local focus. Ahe...
