Re: Check for Updates when Package Box is Empty

Frivolous checking should be avoided to spare the host the workload. Since you say you were addressing me, I'll respond... I absolutely agree that gratuitous mirror traffic is an inherently bad thing, which is why I raised that very point several posts ago . But apparently some folks don't care abo...

Re: Check for Updates when Package Box is Empty

@OP: I reiterate my earlier affirmation that your time is yours to waste as you see fit. I'm not trying to steal your joy. That said, it's a simple arithmetical fact that gratuitous update checking is a task cries out to be automated. Even if one dawdles, creating the necessary cron job would take a...

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, I did not call you odd.

Sheesh.

Re: Check for Updates when Package Box is Empty

Particularly if one is tracking Stable (and it's hard to imagine an MX user tracking anything else), updates just don't happen all that often. Anyone is free to waste time in whatever way s/he sees fit, but constantly manually checking for nonexistent updates seems an odd compulsion. If one is nonet...

Re: Check for Updates when Package Box is Empty

Is it wise to check for updates when the Update box is empty? "Wise" is a value judgment. It is, however, largely pointless. Updates may indeed become available during the time between any two scheduled checks, but the same thing can be said for the time interval between any two manual checks, too....

Re: Trying to get wifi to work on an HP 17-bs0xx laptop

Of course, none of the aforementioned utilities work if the WiFi switch is off. While it seems unlikely that this is the root cause of the reported problem, it has to be regarded as the absolutely necessary first step in troubleshooting. (See " Is it plugged in? " for details.) I have looked at the ...

Re: Configure lightdm to default to Shutdown when logging out

I confess that I'm not nearly as clear about the question as I'd like to be. I'm not even clear whether the OP is running Xfce or KDE. (I'm assuming Xfce, since the initial post seems to imply that the OP knows how to achieve the desired effect in KDE.) That said, automatic shutdown would not be han...

Disappearing KDE Title Bars (RESOLVED--sort of)

RESOLUTION: I never did truly solve this problem, nor identify its root cause, but I managed to work around it by forcibly reinstalling both KWin and QTCurve. Original post below for the benefit of posterity... I'm experiencing still more weirdness with KDE in MX-16.1 Twice in the last two days, an ...

Re: "Random" color weirdness MX-16 KDE

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I am (well, was) using a Kvantum color scheme (KvArc). And yes, I have the KDE GTK config widget installed; the dropdown weirdness resolved itself when I went back to QTCurve. I'm hearing that you suspect Kvantum as the ultimate culprit. That's probably good news. I ...

Color weirdness MX-16 KDE (RESOLVED, sort of)

I'm going to apologize in advance for this post, because I'm honestly not sure if this issue is with MX, or the theme engine, the DE,or this new-to-me-but-second-hand laptop. Please consider this as more of a "is it just me?" or "anyone got any clue what might be going on?" kind of post. I've never ...
