Just remember kids... what goes up, must come down. I can remember when Ubuntu was on top... Mint... Manjaro... all of them have had their fun. I'm not sure any of the ratings hype really makes a huge difference. The product and the people are what really count. IMHO. :bagoverhead:

Re: XFCE Default Look

I actually prefer to start off with the "stock" Xfce (and by that, of course, I mean like what Debian gives you). Doesn't matter much, though, because either way, I'm gonna change everything up, first thing. That's why I never get too caught up in the default appearance that devs decide to go with. ...

Re: logon screen screenshot ?

Okay, I've tried this again with Debian Stretch Xfce, should work in MX (but I'm using sudo instead of su). Here's what I did: - First, made sure imagemagick was installed ( apt search imagemagick ). - Created the file ~/screenshot.sh with the following contents: chvt 7; sleep 5s; DISPLAY=:0 XAUTHOR...

Re: logon screen screenshot ?

Tried it in one of my Arch installations just now:

My notes on this are missing a few steps, though -- I'll have to clean them up before I post them here, unless somebody else beats me to it (or finds an easier approach for MX).

Re: logon screen screenshot ?

I've used the 2nd approach that I found here ("Better but slightly complicated way of taking screenshot of login screen in Ubuntu and other Linux"): https://itsfoss.com/screenshot-login-screen-ubuntu-linux/ But my notes on this are over 3 years old -- did it with Debian Jessie (Xfce). I'll have to t...

Who is "not" using SSDs? :)
I'm not, but I haven't had any need to purchase one yet. By the time I do get around to it, I'm sure the deals will be a lot better than they are even now.

Re: More from Dedo

The one thing that's really missing is a guaranteed LTS edition for me to be able to commit it to production An unofficial response about MX regarding LTS (abridged from Richard 's comments) ... At the moment, MX Linux does not have an LTS version ... we provide support past the time that the base ...

Re: Countdown from 100 --> #1

I'm kinda glad that MX is about to hit #1 in the rankings, but it's mostly just entertainment to me. Recently, I took a look at the DW rankings for each year since they've been doing it. Puts things into perspective -- they come and they go. Maybe MX will have a long run at #1 like Mint did. By the ...

Re: What was your first Linux distro?

What was your first distro? Why did you decide to try Linux? Why start with this distro in particular? When did you start off? How knowledgeable of Linux were you then? What was your experience with your first distro? I started playing around with Linspire and Knoppix in 2005, then Xandros and "Sim...

Re: MX Linux vs Debian

I see the difficulties you mention in Debian as one of it's strengths. I like being able to do a netinstall, add only the packages I want and not have dozens that will never be used, and configure it to work exactly how I want. The installer has worked perfectly the last few times I used it. Debian...
